Most of AC/DC catalog is comprised of pretty simple basslines. Same for Judas Priest (although I'm thinking of their old material. Never heard their most "recent" stuff). |

| | | | Most modern rock songs you hear on the radio today are easy to learn, not meaning they are good songs though. |

First song I ever learned was Brain Stew by Green Day. It's simple and gets you accustomed to moving up and down the E string. It's A, G, F#, F, E. |

| | | | ac/dc, kiss, some old ozzy, anything where the bass line follows the guitar is pretty easy stuff. but don't get stuck in only one style of music. try some sade for a latin feel or some toby keith for some modern country. if you start now learning different styles and grooves, you'll be a better bass player later on. as a session bass player I have to play everything from nu metal to southern gospel. |

They are not hard to play but Bob Daisley wrote some nice lines. I always enjoy the Ozzy stuff we play b/c of those lines. Some songs you could try would be Crazy Train, Over the Mountain, Flying High Again, Bark at the Moon and I Don't Know. I think they'll give you some good stuff to practice while showing you how to do more than just ride the E. He usually would write entirely different solo sections to go behind Randy Rhoads solos as you'll see.
Check out some Thin Lizzy as well. You can search alot of bass tabs on the internet to help you when you are having trouble figuring something out. Just try to use your ears and not rely on the tab.
Depending on your budget, something like a Tascam Bass Trainer might help you as well. You can slow the CD down, enhance the bass, cut the bass, etc. It is a great practice and song learning tool.

Link Wray: Jack the Ripper (simple but fast)
Ventures: Pipeline, Walk Don't Run
Dick Dale: Miserlou
There are plenty more classic surf and rock songs from the 50's and 60's that people love but aren't complex. Even Roy Orbison's Pretty Woman isn't that hard with an hour's practice. |

| | uncle petey? | | Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: outer banks, nc | | | Um...not to be a buzzkill but I highly regret just trying to learn songs when I first started playing. Learn chords and chord progressions. Then you can look up the chords for a song on the internet if you're not ready to transcribe....and there's nothing like playing with a bunch of guys; they ask if you know the song, I say, "no. But what key is it in? And what's the progression?" He tells me. Then I just play with the drummer. Good fun...
alright, one that sounds cool and is terribly easy is "Whole Lotta Love" ledzep....
