"Baba O'Riley" strikes me as a song that's both classy, simple to learn, loads of fun to play along to, and leaves plenty of room for trying to do some new things of your own. |

Couple of honest questions here. How old are you. I am 54. And what do you like? There are some 'easy' Beatle songs to learn, which I think were the best from the 60's. Before and after that time have great songs that are very good for learning 'easy' bass lines too!
Please let us know what you are interested in playing and there are those of us here that will be happy to help you go from there. |

| | | | Blues stuff is good cause it is easy to start to play but then you can get really complicated with it if you want - eg Hey Joe is fun to play, especially with the chromatic/walking bass line.
And other 50/60's songs like people have already said.
But you can take any song and start with a basic bass line and build it. You don't have to play everything note for note - just get ideas from the parts/sounds you like.
I always start with the Root for any chord - usually add the 5th and then I might just experiment trying to find only 1 other note to use. That's kind of how I build my bass lines. I am not a great bass player - but no one I play with in bands ever complains about me playing simple lines - I think they like it cause I play in time and I don't step on the guitar players toes.
I break out into stuff every now and then but you really don't have to.
Keep everything simple I say - if a song sounds complicated to play on bass, simplify it. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
