i just bought this book from amazon cause it looks really good. And i need to work on my groove playing.

But i dont have a drum machine, should i get one? I have garageband and i usually jam with those drum tracks.

I have a metronome. any advice on getting the most out of this book?

If you have Garageband you have a lot of drum patterns to practice with. Also don't ignore your metronome for working grooving in time. Listen to a groove on GB or a record and get it in your head. Now flip on the metronome to hear it in time and lock it into your head. Now practice your bass to that. Doing that you will learn to groove to a click.

Another way to practice with your metronome to work on groove is set it to only click on 2 and 4 like a drummer's backbeat.

you ought to be able to program the drum patterns in any number of computer programs.

learning to do so will help your overall knowlege of rythm and groove.

Half of the benefit of that book is programming the beats yourself, and seeing how the different grooves . . . differ. Here is a free, downloadable drum machine that has enough features to get you going - might have to fool around a bit to get the 6/8 and 12/8 grooves programmed, though.

For Mac and Garageband, if you're willing to spend $70, try iDrum:

I think they have a free demo to download if you want to try it out first...

good luck, and have fun!

i just got this book, and some of the exercises seem really boring and mundane, but i'm sticking with them because i trust Ed's teaching style.

However, i have only been using the CD and a metronome and i feel like i should have a drum machine.

What is a decent drum machine that i could use and not break the bank...ideas?

thanks ya'll
