Egg rolling downhill sound

Sign in to disble this ad
My teacher is trying to get me using alternating fingers to strum a string and get a sound he describes as "like an egg rolling downhill". I think I understand what he's talking about, and I certainly can hear it when he does it, but as soon as I leave the lesson, I can't remember the exact sound.
Does anybody know a link to a good example of this effect?

it's sounds like he's talking abut a basic shuffle/swing feel, as opposed to a straight ahead feel. There must be millions of examples....

here's a you tube guitar shuffle blues lesson, just listen to the rhythm:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-vhdGQjqNQ

is that the kind of feel he is talking about?

I think that's it. Hearing it as part of a song as opposed to just plucking the same string trying to imitate a rhythm is a lot better.
Thank you.

Suggest you record your next lesson and clarify the issue with your teacher. That way when you go back home you can listen to his explanation and the specific sound/effect he wants you to get.

The next time he hits you with a strange methaphor for something, you might also want to ask "what's the commonly used term form that?" Makes it easier to google.
