Electric bass in music colleges

Are there any decent colleges in US or Canada that I can go to for electric bass, other than Berklee? I live in Turkey so I'm too far away from there to know any colleges less famous than Berklee But judging from the searching I made through the web, you don't have many options that you can choose from to educate yourself in electric bass, in a college.

Check the net for schools that have decent jazz programs (even if you're not a jazz player), and most of the time, you can see the staff. If they have an electric bass staff member on board, they teach. And to be honest, most places with decent arts programs include guitar and bass.

I thought the same thing as you before I went off to college, and Berklee was where I thought I had to go, but one of the nearest colleges around has a great music program that incorporates E.B, so I now go to it (University of Southern Mississippi).

Besides Berklee, I know that North Texas University has a phenomenal program. Many great players come out of there. I'm a jazz studies major and think of it more as a 'contemporary music' studies. It may be a route you want to take a look at.

Best to you,

Andrew

North Texas is a great program but you cannot be an electric bass major there. You would need to play URB too.

Check out BIT in CA.
