Electric bass schools in michigan?

Sign in to disble this ad
currently I'm taking classes as a music minor at Saginaw Valley State University in saginaw, Michigan and started learning upright bass to be considered a music major. I'm not really sure i want to learn upright, it just makes more sense to continue learning electric instead of having to start over on upright. so my question is does anyone know of schools in Michigan that have a decent bachelors program on electric bass? I've looked into MI and Berklee, the degree and elective classes look sweet (SVSU doesn't really offer anything specifically for bass), I'm just hoping for something maybe a little closer to home. does anyone have suggestions?

The best jazz departments in the public system in Michigan are Wayne State and Western. Pretty sure you can major in jazz performance on electric at either, those would be the first to check anyway. Don't go to Berklee or MI, go to a real university.

Wayne State is a good school, some of it's programs are among the best in the country. Right next to the Cass corridor, lots of good music, lots of good food. Detroit isn't for everybody but I'd take it over a lot of the traditionally 'nice' cities around the country, if for lack of pretense and snobbery if nothing else.
