That is what I used to get started.

"Good" is such a subjective term. It was good for me because I had no dreams of becoming a top-level, super awesome bass player. I just wanted to see if I could learn something new and have some fun in the process.

If I had started out by running scales and modes for an hour a day for the first month, I would not have lasted long. The Emedia course got me playing along with songs right away which kept it fun and kept me interested in moving forward.

Early into the course, I was playing along with songs and thinking "Hey! I can do this!"

I used the emedia to get started too, its a pretty good introduction , like LD said it gets you playing along with some stuff and feeling like your getting somewhere.

Its pretty inexpensive, good bang for the buck to get going.

I rushged through it to omuch, instead of mastering each lesson I was always trying to just get to the next one, I think maybe ill go back throuhg alot of it and take more time with it.

This is always my problem with self teaching....Bass, Flash, HTML, PHP, MySQL...I need a course/lessons just to stop me from going ahead and not remembering what I learned in the first 2 chapters.

Start learning to read sheet music. I started a month ago and while it's a little slow at times doesn't make you rely on tabs. Sheet music is correct. Tabs may or may not be. I've been taking sheet music and just writing all the notes in over and over to practice where things are on the clef. Then I try and play it. Don't get discouraged if you try it. It's rough.

I'm a bass player that wanted to learn guitar too. I used eMedia (found a GOOD deal on EBay) and found it useful for several reasons.......

First, I could take the lessons at my convenience...say 2:00am if I wanted.....second, if I didn't understand the lesson, I could retake it again as many times as I needed and not feel like I wasted $15 on a lesson that I was completely lost on and just couldn't grasp it. Third, you don't have to follow the lessons in order. Once you get the basics, you can jump around to whatever interests you......and it does indeed focus on getting playing songs that you're familiar with quickly. No need to spend hours upon hours doing scales and modes......that was key to keeping me interested.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for starting out.

Not always....my guitar player and I each have different Eagles song books with alot of the same songs in them yet, both books are not the same. They sound very much alike when you play them but the charts are not written the same. His has the full score and mine is an Easy Guitar version. If you want to play a song note for note, you'll need the full score. If you're satisfied with making the song recognizable, the Easy Guitar charts work fine.
