| | | | Energy Crisis - electric or acoustic?

Hey friends,
For a few years I've weighed the pros and cons of playing electric or acoustic bass, the differences in sound and feel; the old, majestic upright or the fretted, solid body of a bass guitar? If forced to choose between the two, which would it be?
Personally, the bass guitar was the more economical/practical choice considering musical background (instrumental rock bands) and portability (don't own a car)
Recent political trends have led me to consider the benefits of acoustic instruments from a new angle; I call upon the politically savy bassists to settle my nerves on this matter. Is Peak Oil a serious concern or a "corrupt globalist scam"? What will the world be like 20 years down the road and should musicians be opting for acoustic instruments over electric ones? |

I would give up cell phones, microwave ovens, computers, even my wristwatch before I would give up electric bass entirely.
Acoustic bass has its place, but this is just silly.

howabout, if your so worried, putting a solar panel on your roof for running your Bass off then...
You can get solar chargers for charging up rechargeable batteries as well... so you can easily run a practice amp off solar power...
I have a small sailboat, I use solar panels to keep my batteries topped off. Most stuff on the boat is 12 volt, any mains things I want to power can be done with an inverter. |

| | | | I've been giving this some thought myself, but for different reasons. I'm interested in building a cabin in the woods and living in seclusion for the most part, so an acoustic or upright would make sense for me in that scenario. On the other hand, if I go all out I'd like to install solar power or something at the cabin so I can take nature photos and upload them to the internet for peoples viewing pleasure and maybe keep an online journal of what life in the woods is like. |

| are you kidding me?!?! most of the world's electricity comes from oil one way or another- mostly coal burning power plants. that's why even using a lot of electricity is a huge contribution to global warming and our earth's polution! |

I hear guys talk about Metal and amp stacks. I laugh and tell them to go hear a good orchestra perform The Planets by Holst. Hold on to your seat when they play Mars.
