Unhappy Evolve my music further

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

Here I go: Im learning at a jazz conservatory and I know a lot, but Im still a rookie...
Im playing bass for 4 years now, but Im not a musical type of person , so it takes me time to learn, then use stuff on the bass.
My question would be: If I know the chords, I can read music from a sheet, how can I evolve my playing further? I mean how can I find out new ways of playing a bassline with a band? So far I only used standard things for playing something wich is steady, but I want to combine "my own style" (cos' everyone got one) with what I have learned.
I still dont know what to use from a chord when Im playing...so....do laugh .

Appreciation for every help.

Learn to play by ear. Use the theory as a tool, not a rule.
Most theory came about AFTER the fact. It's really, really useful stuff, but using your ear is more useful still IMHO.
