Is this book only for DB, or can it be used for bass guitar as well?

Sure it can! Try the Simandl Methods too - best thing is, no TAB to get in the way!

I started my music-life by plunking on the piano at my gramma's house, then on the ones in the school music rooms. I took up trumpet in 4th grade, and got my 1st bass when I was 13. I've found over the years that ANY music can teach you as a musician... not just bass music for bass, or piano music, or whatever. Read it all, figure it out, play it on any instrument - it will only help.

Another one I'm really getting into right now that seems to mainly focus on upright but has diagrams for both is the chuck sher bass method. I can't remember the exact name off hand.

To germ_77, (and the others)

The "improviser bass method" by chuck sher... I have a copy and learned a lot about bass playing from that book... It's for electric and upright... a nice book !!!

He recommends using both other mentionned book (evolving bassist and simmandl) in that one... I would give a try at both...

This is a great book. I used it for electric. I had both the revised 2000 something edition and the original from the 70s I photocopied from a friend. Taught me all the basic scales and how to read even though I don't use reading for what I play. The theory has been good. The original edition even had instructions, pictures and recommendations on how to travel with double basses (how to fasten a seatbelt on one, imagine doing this today). It also has pictures on recommended posture and hand positioning for electric so yeah its a book for both upright and electric.
