Examples of Basslines from other Genres?

Im self taught, no time/money for a teacher and quite frankly im getting real fed up with not being able to progress. Not giving up but my problem is I play the same old songs over and over again and im just getting no where. I think my problem (well one of many im sure) is that I havent expanded my musical tastes, I sit here and try to learn all rock/metal songs that are fairly easy and straight forward. I havent really learned rhythm and how to groove so I come here asking who I should be looking at? Band/song names that will help me groove up and down the fretboard, how to keep the rhythm and most of all start to enjoy playing again, because its almost like a chore to me now. Right now I have no idea who to look for, im assuming in the area of Blues and Jazz but the only thing I know about that genre is....well pretty much how to spell the word "blues" and "jazz."

Im looking for anything to get my out of this rut where I play for an hour a day, get fed up and go to bed knowing I just wasted another day of not progressing like I would have wanted.

For Blues, try a bit of John Lee Hooker, Willy Dixon, Howlin' Wolf and/or the Stevie Ray Vaughan back catalogue.

Rock - try nailing Led Zep II - all of it (that should keep you busy!)

Jazz - Hmmmmm......

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
Anything by Ramsey Lewis, Brother Jack Mcduff, or Jimmy Smith (he often didn't use a bass player, so that gives you carte blanc).

I don't really do Funk, but I'm sure a representative selection will be along shortly.

Pete.

Pick up Standing In The Shadows of Motown (book/cds)...enough Jamerson transcriptions to keep you busy for awhile.
...Funkifying The Clave For Bass & Drums (Book/cds) by Robbie Ameen & Lincoln Goines. Will help you hear/feel 'rhythm' in a different way.
A decent book for walking bass, too...maybe something by Ed Friedland.

One tune for 'grooving up & down the fretboard'-
"Kid Charlemagne"-Steely Dan.

Have fun again!
