I just finished watching a clip of Jaco's Modern Electric Bass on youtube and I wondered how these are achieved. It went a little to fast for me on the DVD. If anyone could explain how he does it , Id appriciate it.

Do you understand the theory of natural harmonics? If yes it'll be a lot easier for me to explain.

Ok, let's stay on the top string on a 6 str bass - the C string. Basically, you can find an octave harmonics on the 12th fret (a C an octave higher than the open string C) while using the open C as the "root note." If you press the 2nd fret on the C string, which will make your "root note" a D. So the 2nd fret becomes the hypothetical nut, which means you will find an octave harmonics on the 14th fret on the C string (since it's 12 frets above your root note, aka 2nd fret D).

Also, you can go to www.bassplayer.tv and watch the Steve Bailey's "Artificial Harmonics" video, videos explain it better than words.
