Fantastic chord tone exercise - with Scott Devine

Hey guys,

Posted a soloing/chord tone exercise last week and a lot of players seemed to get something from it, so.... I decided to do another tutorial based on chord tones. It's not an exercise specifically for soloing... it's for EVERYTHING bass lol! It'll help you with your bass lines, soloing, visualization of harmony on the fingerboard etc etc.

Here it is...
Chord Tone Exercise for Bass Guitar | Scott's Bass Lessons

Thanks again for watching!

Scott.

Looks like a great exercise Scott. It would be nice to find the chord progression with a drum track but without the bass track. Whenever I try to learn to solo over a song I just wind up doing what the bass player on the recording is doing. I'm really really really focused on "holding down the bottom" and find it hard to think in terms of melody when I can hear a bass part. Any suggestion on finding a recording sans bass track?

Rick Blanc...

Hey man glad you liked the lesson. I'd maybe try and get your hands on 'band in a box'. It's an easy program that you can make up your own backing tracks on.

Also if your finding it hard to break away from the bass function, learn loads of melodies. It always works great for me.

Easy man,

Scott.
