i've got SITSOM and about to spring for The Funkmasters...seems like a great book about the great James Brown and his musicians and his amazing bassists!

also thinking of this one by Josquin des Pres...CLASSIC FUNK AND R&B GROOVES FOR BASS... and Jon Liebmans FUNK/FUSION BASS...

i already have Slap It!...and Finger Funk Studies...

anyone read BASS PLAYER PRESENTS THE FUNKY BASS BOOK yet? it seems pretty cool! not a studies book with lots of music reading, but fun and informative...R&B Bass Masters by Ed Friedland is also on my radar...anyone read that one?

i'm really into books!

I've got all the books you mentioned. I really like classic r&b and funk grooves by josquin des pres. Wasn't a big fan of John liebmans book. It had a lot of scales and arpeggios in it, and not enough grooves. The funky bass book is awesome. No instruction, but a lot of history. Ed's book is good as well.

All of Anthony vitti's books are really good, and not easy.

If you count slap as part of funk, Stuart Claytons "Ultimate Slap Bass" is the best, most thorough book about it, from start to finish.

All the Carol Kaye books, the method ones and "Electric Bass Lines" have some really awesome rhythm things in them, great for funk.

And for blues/funk check out the transcriptions of Bob Cranshaw's lines on the abersold CD's he played on. Great stuff there too, walking lines but with rhythmic variety and funky.
