Are fender jazz basses and precision basses good to slap on???i'm going to buy a new buy a new bass....and i would really like to get close to the sound of slap of larry graham in the there's a riot goin on of sly and the family stone.

Yes, they are.

The jazz bass is one of the most used basses to slap. Larry Graham, Marcus Miller and hosts of others use jazzes and their equivalents for the tone.

Yes they are good for slap, The jazz bass is a bit better for slap/poping on than the P IMO. Not for playability reasons but for tonal reasons. The P just doesnt get as good of a slap/pop sound as the jazz imo.

I'd venture a guess that 90% of the forefathers of "slap" did it on a Fender bass-
Monk Montgomery, Larry Graham, Chuck Rainey, Louis Johnson, etc.
Rainey & Louis "Thunder Thumbs" Johnson used P-basses...a P-bass does give a different slap tone than a Jazz(the bridge pickup makes a difference). Maybe it's me...I dig it when I hear that old P-bass being slapped(properly).
