I'd venture a guess that 90% of the forefathers of "slap" did it on a Fender bass-
Monk Montgomery, Larry Graham, Chuck Rainey, Louis Johnson, etc.
Rainey & Louis "Thunder Thumbs" Johnson used P-basses...a P-bass does give a
different slap tone than a Jazz(the bridge pickup makes a difference). Maybe it's me...I dig it when I hear that old P-bass being slapped(properly).
