Hello all - Just hoping what I'm saying resonates with some of you. Let me know! So I've been playing for about 4 years, read music, know theory, and also play a weekly worship gig. I'm co-director there and function as a vocalist as well. Studied vocal music for undergrad for a while. Anywho - the church music thing is great but I really am feeling like I need to start gigging, etc. with some other music - blues/rock/soul/rnb, etc. About a week ago I posted an ad on craigslist outlining my experience just as I have above. Ended up getting together with a guy yesterday. He has a couple gigs lined up - rock/blues/popular stuff. I went in there really nervous - he didn't specify any tunes or anything beforehand. He turned out to be a really good guitarist about 20 years older than me - would call out a couple chords and start playing at performance tempo. Bottom line: I'm used to charts and worship stuff we do is pretty simple. We played a lot of blues and I went into it thinking I got blues down pretty well - at least the basics. He basically didn't say anything specific about my playing, just that he "liked the sound", etc. Said he would "be in touch". Haven't heard anything as of yet. MAIN QUESTION: What do I do now? This is the first time I've done anything like this and feel pretty humbled compared to my "band leading" role elsewhere. Thanks for your replies.
