first song

what was the first song that you started learning that really helped you "get it". you know, a song that a beginner can start learning and feel good about after a few days

Come Together is a good one. Also, Sweet Home Chicago. Its a great example of a blues bassline and how the bass functions in a song.

Just my opinion though....

Two suggestions:

1) Money by Pink Floyd. Cool bass cover and tabs can be found here:

2) Many medium tempo R&B Blues/Swing songs. You'll get basic scales, patterns, and standard 12 bar blues chord progressions.

example: Baby, You've Got What It Takes - Bruce Delaplain - YouTube
E-A-B chord progression
pattern: R-5-flat_7th-octave

You can start with the open E string (figure it out - it's fun)
