Out of curiosity ...

What are the first song(s) you learned after deciding to pick up a bass?

To get the ball rolling, mine were:

*Nothing Else Matters - Metallica
*Like a Stone - Audioslave
*Lit Up - Buckcherry
*My Own Worst Enemy - Lit

Learned them all the first day I picked up a bass. Lit Up was the hardest one. lol

The first song I ever learned was Strange Brew by Cream. The bassline was a little more random, but my teacher had me play a basic blues pattern over it. I didnt like the song but it was cool to play something at the time.

G-L-O-R-I-A was the first song I learned to play with some guitar player friends of mine in high school.

Rock and Roll - Led Zeppelin

Wild Thing - The Troggs

Pretty much any I IV V song is what we played in my first band in high school.

Later in high school moved onto Rush, Police, more Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, CCR and the other rock and roll usual suspects.

Then joined another band that played school dances and so it was Loverboy, Journey, Billy Idol, U2, Duran Duran and all that high-school popular stuff from the early-mid eighties. Believe it or not but two of my band members were named Keith Moon and Jon Anderson, but Keith played keyboards and Jon played drums.

Dreams by Fleetwood Mac. Simplicity. Restraint. F and G, with a single shimmering A halfway through the middle 8.

First song from beginning to end was probably A Hard Days Night by the Beatles.

The funny thing is, usually when I see new bass players learning Smoke on the Water they usually start playing the signature opening guitar riff even though the bass never plays that part any where in the song.
