Hi,
i'm tryng to learn a bit of bass to my friend, he seems to have some problems to follow the right time....
if there is a click or a drummer he follows good but if isn't so, he starts to accellerate or decellerate, there is a good way to improve timing???

I think your question is --- Is there a good way to improve timing? Metronome, click track, pat the foot, greet your teeth, shake your head, whatever it takes, but, there has to be some outside help to maintain a steady beat - of course IMHO.

I sing, under my breath, the tune - with the vocalist or the solo instrument. Augmenting the timing they set. Now that is not what we should be doing, as our job is to lay down the beat and keep everyone else on track. I justify this in my mind - in that I let the solo instrument set the beat - once set - then I maintain it.

You might try having him sing with the soloist or keep a click track going until timing is no longer a problem.

No other instruments - Sir Paul uses a click track.
