Freaking Out About First Lesson!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone, first of all sorry if i put this in the wrong section!
Anyways, so ive been playing for just under 6 years, and recently ive been stuck in a pretty huge rut playing wise, so i decided to ring up my local music store and book in for some lessons to try and help me out and give me some new ideas and so on... My teacher used to play in the band Icehouse(not too sure if they're known outside of australia or not!).
The only problem is i am really really really nervous about it, and scared that when im asked to play something im gonna stuff it up quite badly and not be able to show my full ability off.
I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on how to deal with this? or is it just a case of explaining to my teacher how im feeling and getting used to playing around him?
Thanks!
Kara

Don't worry- You've played for 6 years. he'll have heard plenty of worse people and in any case once there are few things as dull as listening to people shredding away is if they're some jazz god.
Talk to him. Give him as specific an idea as possible as to what you want to improve on certain techniques, styles, chords etc- just saying "I want to get better" can be a little vague for him to give you what you want.

Try to relax it's a lesson not an audition. They just want to get an idea of where to start. If real nervous, just tell the teacher that, they will understand. Once the lesson gets started the jitters go away. Plus if you step on a few things playing at first the teacher adjust your lesson later when you are more relaxed and play your normal level.

Relax and have a good lesson.

Ice House: they recorded a song called "Electric Blue" that still gets occasional airplay on 80's oldies stations here in Ohio.

Ye gods, how it pains me to use "80's" and "oldies" in the same sentence ...

yep, its right near Highett train station....they dont really much stuff in the way of basses there, but ron is a really cool guy and always willing to help out when he can.
And Late bloomer, dont worry too much about it, me and my younger brother love those so called "oldies"(which is pretty bad term!) stations better than the ones that play all the new stuff!
