Hi guys
I just made a little fretboard trainer for the bass and put it online. It's very simple and doesn't have that many features or functions yet.. Please try it out and let me know what you think.. Here's the link : http://www.fretboard-trainer.com
If you have any ideas for new features I can implement, please let me know
Morten

I would like to see a drop down color overlay showing the major scale box pattern I think this would be helpful for those learning where the notes are on their fretboard. Other than that looks great, I've bookmarked it.
Appreciate your efforts. |

Thats a great idea.. I think I'll do that. Not only the major scale but also others. Different ways of playing the same scale - with fingering etc.. What do you think?
I should of course make a version for 5 and 6 string bass as well.. And maybe even one for our guitar-playing brothers ;-)
I'm glad you find it useful! |

I'm glad you find it useful! | Definitely You should! Great Free Stuff on the other hand!
Another good mod could be to show the arpeggios of the notes you are hitting, What do you think? |

Seeing it that way cleared up all the mystery.
Course this tends to move the student toward the box pattern - which I really do not see as being evil. In fact a combination of the box and reading skills seem to be the best of both Worlds.
Looking forward to what you come up with.
Good luck.

one suggestion- unless I'm missing it- provide an option for more strings- 5, 6, etc

| | | | The hover over the note approach has one flaw, and that is that it shows you all the other notes in the area as you pass over them on the way to the one you are testing yourself on. So the tester unintentionally cheats on the nearby notes. I suggest showing the note while the mouse button is depressed and either a rapid click or a double click to play the tone. You might even put in a selectable option to have it play the note as long as the button is held down.
Other than that, five string? Pretty please?

I have some requests (longer term) if you dig donig this stuff.
I belive Gootar.com has something similar.
Note --- it would be cool to have them separated by how "complex" they are.. meaning my beginners would be confused by a bunch of buttons discussing a dominant 7 etc.
.... ...
I like the major scale overlay request.

I'm glad you find it useful! | Put the guitarists at the bottom of the list. There is tons of stuff out there for them. I kept tripping over it while looking for bass trainers.

| | | | I don't know how complicated you want this to get, but if it could show a staff with a note and you have to click on it on the fretboard, that would be an excellent tester/trainer. If it could remember the ones you get wrong or take a long time to answer and weight those more heavily to be brought up again sooner, that would be great.
There is a program out there that does this, but it costs over $50.00 and is only approved through XP.

A 5-str option is a priority IMHO as well as for those who want to challenge themselves with reading while playing, there could be a de-tune option for the fretboard (not necessarily 1/2 tone down for all strings, but the ability to tune each string individually)
