Anybody know what the frets are to play harmonics on?

There are several. Literally just about every "fret spot", but just like similar notes on different strings, this holds true for harmonics too.

3, 4, 5, 7, 10, 12, 15, 17 and just about everywhere in between. Check out victor wooten's take on Amazing Grace for some ideas on harmonics.

There's some between the 2nd and 3rd frets that I use quite a lot.

Most of them aren't exactly on a fret but try 12, 7, 5, 4(more like 3.8), 3(3.2), 2.6~8,2.2, 2, 1.9 and around 1.9 to 1 there are a lot of them pretty close.

Also, the harmonics works by dividing the string into "smaller strings"(can't find a better way to describe it) so you can find these harmonics on upper frets.

Dean Peer's Bass Harmonics gives a thorough explanation supported by very good exercises and pieces.

This single file should clear all doubts on harmonics (and the notes they produce) that you may have:

Table Of Harmonics

As you can see, lots of places on the fretboard have valid positions to sound notes using harmonics. It's true that some ring out better than the others. Understanding that as well as perfecting the use of less prominent harmonics is just a matter of experience.

Top line is the fret board, starting from the head and running to the bridge (or body). Each line underneath is a different string for the bass and the colored lines are showing the positions of the harmonics and their names.
