Question Fretting and Plucking Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I have 2 questions about how to fret and pluck parts of this tab. These are kind of beginner questions:

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/..._ver3_btab.htm

1. In part 1, when you play the 10th frets on the A and then the D string, what's the proper technique for fretting that? I'm assuming that you should use your 3rd finger to fret the 10th frets on the A and D strings at the same time, but it's tough to hold down both strings at the same time. Maybe I just need to practice more. It's pretty hard to use the 3rd and 4th fingers, because the frets are right on top of each other.

2. My other question is about part 2. The tab says to pop the 12th fret on the G string, and the 10th fret on the D string at the same time? What's the proper technique to do this?

Thanks!

When I'm fretting two strings simultaneously on the same fret I usually use two fingers.
In your case I would fret the D string with my index finger, and the G string with my middle.
You can use the other fingers though; middle + ring; ring + pinky if your pinky has enough strenth
I feel I have more tone and articulation control using two finger tips.

In some cases (like when slapping) I'll lay my fingers across two strings like the barre chord method.

For the popping question pop the D string with the index finger of your plucking hand, and pop the G with the middle finger.
Just get enough of the tip of the finger under the string to pop so you don't lose any speed and pull straight up.
To get a double pop (one right after the other) twist your wrist out and down at the same time, letting the fingers roll out from under each string.
