Frustrations with Absolute Fretboard Trainer Professional

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently purchased Absolute Fretboard Trainer Professional, and I'm frustrated (and the info@absolutefretboard.com email doesn't get answered). I feel like I wasted $60.00 (Canadian).

I am using a 5-string and running the "Drill 2. PACING NOTE-TO-POS" and it pops up with notes like D#1, E0, B0, B-1, E1, F1, etc, and then shows the postion on the fretboard. I have no idea what the -1,0,1 means, as it is not the string number (should be 1-5) nor the fret number.

I'm thinking it may be a bug, but this bugger won't answer, and the latest posted update date is 2.50 in Jan2004, and I can't imagine he's done much with it.
Oh yeah... the website promises "Lifetime free email support" (maybe that means they will reply after a lifetime!!... lol)

It was recommended on this forum, so I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with this, and if so, what the -1,0,1 means... it would have made a lot more sense to mean "String number 1-5".

Hopefully others read this, and carefully consider their purchase... is there something else like it that is well supported, and maybe even works?

Thanks, Fred

Thanks, Fred

WOW South Korea??? no way ..BIG red flag!

Maybe all you can do is dispute the bill with your credit card company? as a Defective Product.

They MIGHT contact you then.

Did a google on it and reviews said they will answer your e-mails ....until you buy it then..... nothing. Sorry.

I sent a message/complaint to SWreg, asking for a refund... and they seem to have rattled their chain, and have emailed me!... still waiting for a reply to the actual problem (had to relay it to them AGAIN)... Will report back... Money Talks!

Here's a list of their other products... (was in their email reply to me)...

www.guitarscalesmethod.com ( mastering scales and modes all over the fretboard )

www.100chordsmethod.com ( learning a large vocabulary of chords )

www.guitarspeed.com ( developing high speed and precision on guitar )

www.byear.com ( melodic ear training for guitar and bass players )

www.groovamp.com ( musician's tool )

I believe it's giving you an octave number, using C as the beginning of an octave with the C that is 2 ledger lines below the staff being marked as C0. The B under that, since it's in the octave below that C, is B-1. The C in the octave above it is C1, and so forth. I have a 5 string too so the only "-1" you'll see is the B below that C since that's the ONLY note that our basses can play in that octave.

The reason it's doing this is to show you WHICH C a particular fret corresponds to on the staff since your bass is capable of playing many octaves' worth of notes, and some octave's notes in more than one spot.

It's something like the Scientific pitch notation (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_pitch_notation), but what wikipedia is showing as C3, AFT pro is calling C0.

No need for the freak-out or the "maybe even works?" slam, since it clearly does, and although I know it wasn't you, the blanket distrust of anything made in S Korea isn't very welcome here either.

Minor point, but does anybody else find the NAME of this software a little strange? Why would a professional need any sort of fretboard trainer?

They have a free version as well.
If you get paid, you are a professional.
I don't think the name means that it is for professionals but that it is a higher level paid for version.
