Fusion "flavor"

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Guys and Gals,
I just recently had the awesome opportunity to play a song with a bass solo in jazz band at my university. This is the first time since I've been in the band that we've played something with a bass solo. Anyways, the song was "Pools". Great chart, I'm sure a lot of you know it. Since I'm still fairly new to improvisation, I ended up writing down a solo for the song (I'd rather commit that sin than just play pentatonic up and down...) Since it's a fusion song I took that into account in writing my solo, I wanted the solo to have a real fusion flavor to it. I used whole tone scales, rythmic and melodic secuences, etc. I thought it sounded really good, but I want to learn what other devices players use to make something sound like fusion. So, lets say I have to write another fusion solo, and this time my teacher told me to use different techniques. What would you suggest?
