Gary Willis Style Pentatonics

Hey guys, since the last video tutorial I put up I've had loads of emails asking about a specific lick I used at the end of the tutorial.

It's actually something I stole from Gary Willis... yep, it's true, I'm a thief!

Anyway, I thought I'd put together a video tutorial showing you guys exactly what the lick/pattern is.

Nice lesson man. Actually, I've been checking out your stuff and it's great man. You mentioned having studied with Willis for some time. You can't have ' stolen ' just one lick. Can you post some more stuff you " stole " from not only Willis but also the other cats you've studied from ? HAHA, sorry it sounds so corny. But thanks again for the lessons Scott. They're great! Scoot, I am getting so much out of your pentatonic scales lessons-thank you for sharing your knowledge! In one of the emails that you sent out, you mentioned how the amazing Sharay Reed is using penatonics in his runs in these videos. Will you please make another video breaking down what he is doing?

If I remember right it's because of a nervous/skin condition which makes playing without it difficult/painful.

@Bottomzone... Good idea about the Sharay Reed breakdown... I'll give it some thought and see what I can come up with. I guess the tough thing is being able to encapsulate everything he's doing into a video... it'd be tough! A lot of it is Pentatonic based... especially the runs, but... there's also other stuff going on there too. And... obviously he's got the best pocket... EVER! But... I'm not shying away from the challenge! Give me time to think about it!

On another note... no pun intended... as many of you may or may not know I studied with Gary Willis a few years back. One of the most useful lessons I had with him was a his break down of which pentatonic substitutions he used when soloing over Blue Bossa. In fact I think it spanned over about 2 or 3 lessons with him. for my next tutorial I was thinking about going through this exact lesson with you guys and breaking down exactly what he told me.

Would this be of some interest?

Anything you care to give on how to use pentatonics or specific licks made from the pentatonic patterns would have value.

Hi Scot,

This is the first time I saw any of your videos, which are great, and very musical in the first place. I have realized that I've missed so much not practicing major pentatonic scales.

I think that "Blue Bossa Lesson" would be very eyes opening experience (don't know if phrase is right in english).

Looking forward seeing more from You. Know I'm busy watching all your videos and deciding, where to start with practicing. I've just realized that You've motivated me to practice. Thanks
