Is Gb, Bb, Eb a Gb6 chord? I don't want the 5 (db) in there.
key of Gb.

Man I hate chord theory.

Also how do you mark inversions of chords for example 2nd inversion of Dbmin

First, it really depends on the context - what chord does it lead to/from?

Gb Bb Eb is probably best thought of as an
Eb minor chord (Eb Gb Bb)
with the 5th in the root (second inversion)
and is usually notated "Eb min/Gb"
(genrally, inversion are written as "chordsymbol/bassnote")

second inversion of Dbmin would probably be written Dbmin/Ab
first inversion would be Dbmin/Fb etc

It is leading from a gbmajor and to a ab minor chord
I guess its just a different inversion?

Then that's just an Eb minor chord in first inversion, yeah, and if you want the Db in there thats an Eb minor 7. The way to differentiate "6" chords from "m7" chords is basically by putting them in a context, and listening to them. They share the same notes, yes, but if it feels like a stable, MAJOR KEY tonic, then its a "6" chord, but if it seems like it wants to go somewhere else, its a m7 chord. Somewhat confusing.

If you really want a "6" chord with no 5, write

Gb6 no5

A simple way to notate inversions would be Ebmin/Gb

But

That takes longer to read. I'd much rather see Gb6 on the gig!

Don't hate chord notation. If you do gigs where you read alot, simple chord charts can be a beacon of hope on a dimly lit stage!

I'd put that as an Ebm/Gb, Gb being the minor third in the Ebm chord. I'd prefer this marking anyday over "Gb6no5".

+1 The Ebm/Gb is way easier to read on a chart and telling me exactly what the writer wants in the bass. My question is where is this coming from. Is it a horn/string voicing and rhythm section could still play the 5th. What is the context of the chord is written for.

I was just practicing chords in the Gb scale and transposing them to bass.

E7?

Instead of Dominant E7 (E, G#, B, D)

What is the chord called if the 7th is on D#?

e g# b d#=

Emaj7

the seventh is major, as in the scale degrees in a major scale.
