im 16, i live in a small town in nc where no one really appreciates rock...some people appreciate G 'n R, Led zep etc, but no one really likes anything else other than that...i will play anything...i was just wondering if you guys had any tips on how to find good guitarists and on getting out there...(i have some friends that are good at metal but not good at accoustic nor are they fantastic at rock)....so any ideas? i just want to be able to PLAY! ya no?

If you just want to play, I'd hook up with any local band of any genre so long as the other players aren't totally obnoxious. In 2 years, you can go to college in a city and your history of playing country, folk, or whatever with a gigging band will be useful.

+1 on that last post.

I grew up in a small town. My parents wouldn't allow me to play bass. Just work on what music you can, play polkas if that all there is. Anything you learn about music will serve you later. It not to long to wait.

The internet is your saviour.
