Going to take music in unviversity, Stay in Vancouver or move to Toronto?

i'm in grade 12, and i decided that i want to take music for post secondary. don't give me crap about it or try to convince me otherwise, it is happening, so don't even try.

I have a ton of options for me, but i've narrowed it down three basic choices

a. Stay in vancouver, and take a music degree at cappilano, or at UBC.

b. spend a year at cappilano, and then move to Toronto, and start fresh with a B.A. in music at either Humber, York, or U of T.

c. spend a year out of school, and then go to Toronto.

Basically, i don't know what would be the most viable option. on one hand, Toronto has a vibrant night life and big music scene, especially compared to Vancouver's dormant sleepy like music scene and nightlife. on the other hand, if i move to Toronto, not only will i be cut off from most of my family, i will also be cut off from 95% of the music contacts, my mentors and associates. the latter doesn't sound all too pleasent, especially since one of the things i heard is that the music business is run on who you know, and what they can do for you.

Also if i was to move to toronto, i want that buffer year to be a year to practice my musicianship, so i dont know whether i should spend the money to go to capp and get that extra year in, who knows, it could mean alot in the long run, but so could practicing 6 hours a day instead of studying for exams.

so i was wondering if some of you guys could give some input on what you think i should do. again Toronto yields more opportunity, but Vancouver offers the comfort and safety of a place that i have called home for all of my life.

Humber.

Toronto's music scene is pretty fantastic.

Also, it IS about who you know. But, being in grade 12, that's not something to REALLY be worrying about right now. Keep in mind, if you goto music school, you're instantly making 1000% more contacts than you would by staying at home. IMO.

I agree 100%. I went to Mohawk here in Hamilton for music and it's great. Southern Ontario is awesome for music. And being 18, don't worry to much about your contacts right now. 99% of the work I get now is through people I met in college.

I also suggest taking the year off. Work, gig, jam with people etc....The better you are coming into uni means more challenging ensembles, different teachers etc...Also order Mike Downs book if you dont have it already and study religiously.

I am not trying to be mean, but you appear to have a very stubborn, one-way circuit in taking any feedback...

As I took the time to write you two months ago: Learn to spell the name of any University you plan applying to.
