Gotta say man - I liked the 'bad phrasing' example too! |

I notice that when you did the bad phrasing at the beginning that you were running a lot of scales, and when you did good phrasing you were way more chromatic. Was that by design?
BTW, the story goes that Arthur Kane, the late bassist for the 70's NYC band the New York Dolls, would also play like that where he'd take a deep breath, play a few notes until he ran out of air, then stop and breathe again for the next burst of notes. Of course, he did it because he wasn't very good Never thought of doing that while soloing, though. Good idea.

So a lesson on phrasing scales and arpeggio runs would be great!

| | Registered User | | | | Stoob/dogbluedrummer... Great suggestions guys! I think some tune analysis type tutorials would really help you with these questions. I'll discuss the structure of the tune and then talk about how to actually apply arpeggio's and scales to it. - By doing that you'll be able to see a practical application of what i'm talking about. So... watch this space!
IncX... Cheers man! Spread the word!!

Over the last few months I've been listening to a lot of solo guitar stuff and it's really inspired me to try and do something similar on bass. I've got so into it that i'm planning on recording and releasing an EP that will be made up entirely of solo arrangements of standards for the bass.
This morning I was trying to plan out an arrangement of Autumn Leaves. Pretty much all of it's improvised although I did have an idea of the substitute chords I was going to try and throw in. I put a bit down on video but haven't recorded the entire arrangement... wanna keep it for the EP lol!
