Good beginner book

I recently started teaching a kid bass and I want to get her a book. I never really used a book before, so I was wondering what everyone recommends as the best beginner book. I'm thinking she wants one that's pretty user friendly, pretty much a "bass for dummies" sort of thing. Any help is appreciated.

The newest Hal Leonard book edited by Ed Friedland. It's 3 volumes and excellent. I use it with all my beginners from 5th grade to adult.

Great book, I use it with my students as well. I do however disagree with the 4 fingers per 3 frets in 1st and 2nd position concept he teaches in the beginning, with the exception of playing octaves. I guess it's just a matter of personal taste. 4 fingers/4 frets (5 with extended fingering).

Still an excellent book.
