I'm looking for some drum tracks to screw around with, got any suggestions for free sites to look at?

Google "hammerhead, drum machine". A free, programable drum machine.

It's worth learning. Try the bass drum on 1+3, snare 2+4, Hi-hats on each eighth note for a really basic starting place.
Heres one thing i found by googling drum notation:

Theres a few examples of standard drum rhythms there which you could use.
