Good melodies for ABSOLUTE beginners

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi

I'm trying to think at the moment of good melodies I can teach to beginners that literally haven't yet learned to fret a note. Ones that can be played on a single string.

Different age groups probably like different melodies - any ideas?

So far I've got Happy Birthday and Star Wars..

star wars is too complicated if they haven't learned to fret a note...

Nursery rhymes. They don't tend to leap all over the place interval-wise and they are easy to grasp melodically. They're also easy to remember.

Twinkle Twinkle little star.
This is after I teach them about which frets the dots help them find. Kids dig it.

LOL - how about Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes? I know there's no bass, but it's still a blast to play and it's very easy, and isn't hard to play on one string if you want to.

She don't use jelly- flaming lips. It's a pretty cool riff and it's really, REALLY easy.
+1 to Seven Nation Army. The songs you teach them should be "cool", not like happy birthday or something like that.

also, your right on with the 'cool' thing - I need to find melodies for every different age of student - quite a task!
