Gospel Charts?

Sign in to disble this ad
Anybody out there playing Praise and Worship at your church, and using number charts? I was wondering if charts are available through Integrity or someone. Yes, I can write my own charts, but I only 'sub' at our church, and rather than charting 50 -100 songs, and maybe only needing 25 of them is wasting a lot of time.

I have talked to some of my buddies around the country who are into Comtempory Praise, but no one has a source on number charts. Song books (aka fake books) do not always have the chords / arrangements correct.

I am not lazy, and I do practice this stuff at least one hour a week, but most of my practice time is spent on recording or working on songs for my group (acoustic gospel).

If someone could point me to a web site, etc; I would be grateful.

I kinda see what you are going for, but the term: "number charts?" Do you have another way of describing that? I know at Calvary Chapel we are using chord charts w/lyrics, with accompanying 'practice CD's' to catch/cover all the nuances that the chord charts obviously will not show.

I hope someone else can help out here.

are you looking for a chord/lyric sheet or a full on fully notated chart?

the chord/lyric sheets can be found just searching around the net, and yes some may be incorrect, but it will still be valuable.

fully notated charts i don't believe are available, the director at our church has to chart everything from CD and transcribe it.

maybe you could work on getting your ear better, so you could pick up the stuff easier too.

Nashville Numbering System (1-4-5-1 1-6-2-5, etc.)

charts using the Nasheville numbeering system is what I am after.

I can chart songs fairly quick most of the time, but as I said, I am hoping to save the time invovled in personally charting out say 100 songs, when I probably, (as a back-up) will only need 25 - 30 of them. I work full-time and have three to four playing gigs going all the time, plus trying to finish up my main group' CD.

Still open for help here. I have found one site that may help, thanks to one of my buds on the Eden site. I will let you know if it works out.

Thanks again!

1954 ... please let us know if you do find a site with songs presented in Nashville notation, I have never seen one ... for any of those that arent familiar, it works in any key, you simply insert the key that you are playing in as the 1 chord ... I find myself having to tranpose on the spot quite often with several different P & W leaders ...

Edit to add: ... BTW, 1954 ... great nic!! ... you were born 4 days after me

Quick question on the Nashville system... Lets say you dont know the song, and were just told the numbers. If you go to 6 from 5..and then to the 2 for instance, does that automatically mean the 6 and the 2 are minor chords (minor, dorian) and the 5 is a major (mixolydian)?

Might I suggest, getting something like this:

Sheet Music Plus
http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/store/...6700406&page=1

Where the Chords as well as standard notation is given. You can then get a pencil and write in the Nashville numbering system directly on the page or seperately. It takes a few minutes going through each song, and writing out the numbering.

Here is another place to get sheet music.
http://www.ntimemusic.com/Scripts/default.asp

*** I like the books published by Hal leonard above the integrity one's. The integrity ones I have put the chord charts in the back of the book, the Hal Leonard ones, put the chords above the standard notation. but its 6 or a 1/2 dozen.

Marked like regular chords

Denton57

The numbers are marked the same as chords would be, so in the key of 'C' where 'D' would be noted as a '2' and Dm would be 2m, etc.

Paste these links for some help:

http://members.aol.com/numchart/

http://members.aol.com/numchart/chart_basics.htm

Torch7 - I will check those links, thanks

That is correct. However, some chart makers use 2- instead of 2m. There's quite a few variables in the system.

I have a software that will automatically change a chord chart to a number chart -BUT- you'd still have to enter everything in, so that's not much help.

We use number charts a lot, however our Minister of Music creates the charts. I don't know that they are available in for sale market.

No comprende

We use guitar chords which I will use to build my lines. 3 bassists in our church and we all use the chord fake sheets.

What's the advantage in going 135 (just making this up) vs GCD?

145 = CFG

The advantage to a number chart is it works for any key. A chord chart is only good for the key it is written in.

Example:

I learn a complex song at home and go ahead and write out a chart using the NNS. The song is in Bb on the CD. I show up at Praise Team rehearsal and they are doing the song in F#. No problem, I get out my chart and (1) is F# instead of Bb. But, if I had simply written out a chord chart, imagine trying to transpose Bb to F# in the fly.

Plus, the numbers fall into a pattern, no need to worry about the relative minor, dim 3rd, etc, just follow the numbers. Charts can be simply or as complex as the situation calls for. You can even chart the actual notes or simply the chord progression.

Been backing some students vocalists doing country and the leader scribbles out Nashville number charts and oh what a life saver. Have to keep changing keys and having number charts makes life simplier.

I dont know the type of P&W you do, but I frequent a gospel music website where in the bass section they've done some gospel charts like the way you're asking I think. Gospel Site. Check out the bass/instruction section. Hope that helps.
