dang .. havn't heard Don McLean's American Pie in years .. I love that song .. just listened to the bass line in it and it is real cool ..

Lots of arpeggio, scale and chord in it .. that would be a real good tune to learn.

It is a good one - but I warn you, the act of learning it forces you to play it many times over and that is one song that you really only need to hear once or twice a year... My wife about shot me when I was learning it

That's one song that is sung constantly in karaoke hell. The other is "Friends In Low Places".

Trust me, I've been there.

Well, I was totally diggin' learning all the little twists and turns - rewind, play again, done - start over... finally, out of nowhere comes my loving wife - face red, steam shooting out of her ears... carefully chosen, but obviously intense words barely emulating from her tightly clenched lips...

"Are you REALLY going to play that again!? HMMMM?!?!?! Cuz really, I just can't get enough of it - 10 time, 11, time, 12, time, what the heck! Play it all night if you want - don't mind me!!!"

I said, "Yeah! Ain't it great! Listen to when the bass does that one thing!!! Oh... wait... you were being sarcastic... weren't you?"

Did she have a frying pan in hand when you said that?

I can't say for sure, but wasn't that bassline recorded by Tony Levin?
