Guitar -> Bass Tabs

How many strings are there between the G on my bass and the low E on a guitar? I ask this because I was wondering whether I could just move up 5 fretts per string to convert guitar notes to bass notes.
Thanks

Guitar is an octave higher. So you could play everything 12 frets up.... but I'm not really sure what the point of this is.

The bottom four strings on the 6 string guitar are the same as your 4 string bass (G, D, A, E) So what you see on the bottom four strings of the guitar tab, works the same on your bass.

Yes there is an octave difference, however, guitar tabs on the bottom four strings transfer to your 4 string bass.

The tabs on the B and little E string will have to be transposed, or worked around, i.e. they will be second octave notes and can be found on your 1st or G string somewhere up the neck probably from the 7th or 8th fret all the way to your 22nd fret. Yep, you will just have to find them.

There is actually considerable overlap between bass and guitar.
Your D string is only 2 frets lower than guitar low E.
Your G string is only 2 frets lower than guitar A.

So you could play the guitar e and a notes at guitar pitch by putting them on your d and g 2 frets higher.

From there you could theoretically '5 and 1' everything.
You'll quickly run out of frets on the bass and have to drop octaves.

As mentioned there are better ways.

Octave up and distortion pedals. Play as tabbed.
