Guitar Pro 5 (CD)

This software has been very helpful for learning & playing along. GP allows a user to slow the song to a crawl, read notes on a staff or notes on the neck, play a few measures until they're comfortable, or play an intro (or whatever) in a loop for faster learning.

The UG site, and others have tons of free GP songs for free download. This inexpensive software is unknown to many bass players. The CD is inexpensive, and will be handy for backup. Go for the ver. 5 CD, or pay more and get the ver. 6 CD. Amazon is your friend!

I've been using GuitarPro6 for quickly learning tunes and jotting down musical ideas for a while now, and a friend has TuxGuitar. I've fiddled with it at his place, and honestly, GP is much superior software.

I'd have to agree. It's probably the best $$ that I've spent. GP6 has such a nice, professional interface and very user friendly. I have used the GP series for years. Makes it a lot easier to figure out songs or even your own songs. Plus, you can find tons of tunes to download for it at ultimate guitar website.

Definitely worth the investment.

Has anyone gotten the iPad version of the software? I just got it and I can't figure out how to make it display the bass tabs? Any help is greatly appreciated. I really like my computer versions.

A big +1.

I spent my early years figuring out songs by ear because there was no internet and easy to access tabs. Im so glad I did that, and I put off getting something like Guitar Pro figuring I could just learn any songs by ear until I joined a couple of cover bands. I had to learn 60+ songs for each in fairly short amounts of time. I then decided to take the plunge and buy GP and I am so glad I did, it has been such a time saver and I highly recommend it.

I have it, there is an icon that you click and it brings up the list of all the tracks that you can view on it. Not sure what the icon looks like off hand I dont have it with me, I actually use it on my iphone a lot.

On the iPhone, tap the screen and there's an icon in the lower right corner. Tap that and the tap the bass icon. That'll show the bass tabs. I'll try it on my iPad but I'd imagine it works the same way.
