No, other way round. Guitar Pro numbers the strings from the highest to the lowest.

So... 1=G, 2=D, 3=A, 4=E (for standard tuning).

I've no idea what tuning you've got there - what's the tab?

Pete.

Ah. Is that why something broke? You can usually get away with tuning up a step higher (so, G up to A), but trying two steps (as you were) can end in disaster.

FWIW they're using a very odd tuning, & you may find it more useful to stick to standard tuning whilst you're learning.

To that end, here's the GPro file with just the bass track transposed to Standard (everything else is as per the original): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8453031/calm_envy-STD.gp5

It's dead easy to do this for any GPro tab. Go to Track >> Properties (or hit F6) & you'll see there's a box called 'Library Tunings'. Hit the arrow on the side of this & you get a drop-down menu with a whole bunch of common (& some uncommon) tunings - select the one you want & click OK. You'll get a warning flash up that says 'Are you really sure you want to transpose this track?', just hit yes & it'll do the business.

The downside is that you can end up with some really awkward fingerings, but it's a handy feature in the main.

Pete.

After transposing tunes in GuitarPro I always scan the output to ensure it is playable (fingering wise).

Another thing I tend to do now is look at the tunings compared to the notes being played to make sure alternate tuning is actually necessary...I see a lot of tunings represented in GuitarPro that you can actually play in standard tuning without needing to change anything (and still match the song note for note that is)...

Both very good points. I'd add that all GPro tabs should be checked for 'correct' fingering - I've had a few that require some insane gymnastics to achieve.

A possible cause is entering notes on the stave; GPro seems to just guess at the fingerings if you do this. Stave entry is a good habit to develop IMO, as it starts to open the door to the often-feared 'sight reading' - the resulting tab does need careful checking though.
