Fellow Hoosier here:
I went in '08. I enjoyed the overall experience, and learned quite a bit.
Likes:
1)Most of the classes
2)The people - I was amazed at the lack of attitudes. Most everyone was friendly and supportive, irrespective of skill level.
3)The amount of information presented. It's a LONG weekend. Days start at 8:00 and go until late. Then there are concerts, then optional midnight classes.
Dislikes:
1)In a couple of the classes, the "instructors" just winged it. Most had great, prepared presentations though...
2) There is no food plan, and if you want to make the most of everything available, then you end up eating at the buffet in the motel, which gets a little expensive.
3) Won't happen to you but, I ended up driving to Reading at the very last minute because my flight was on American, and business travelers who fly American will remember the later part of March '08.
4)The very last thing you do is play for a few minutes in front of everyone in Gerald Veasley's "Jazz Base", which is the club inside the facility where the camp is held. Now, I can play onstage at Fort Wayne's Three Rivers Festival with no problems - but this is an audience made up entirely of bass players, including all the guest instructors...it can be a little un-nerving, but please reference #2 in "likes" above.
5) All the extra money I spent on jazz shows, instruction books, CD's, private lessons...etc
