Help Finding Bass instructor in MA around the south shore

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for a bass instructor who can help me refine my playing ability and improve my music theory. I've been mainly learning from books, websites, and forums.... Basically just being self taught. My work and family demands a good amount of hours of my time, but I'm planning to dedicate time and structure a "routine". It's been more then 16 months since I first picked up a bass and I don't feel confident enough to play with other people and would like to get to that level.

I am looking for a bass instructor in or around Quincy or Hingham....or anywhere between the two towns (away from the city!!!) So that I I could get lessons after work.

Can anyone recommend a bass instructor around the area? I've been to south shore music in Weymouth when I first started learning but the instructor I had was mainly a guitar player...... And I wasn't too receptive with his teaching style so that's when I decide to self teach myself. However, presently I feel like I need better structure and someone to guide me to where I want to be.

Also I checked out Matt's music in Weymouth too, but I'm afraid I'll get the same results like I did the last time, so I am hoping to get some type of references or feedback.

I've tried using the advanced search and PMing people, but came out empty. Now I'm hoping to get feedback here..... I hope this is the right forum to post. Too bad the search doesn't go by zip code.

Good that you avoided guitar teachers. For a good bass instructor who knows theory, you're going to have to pay (expect $50 per hour or more). If you're willing to pay a bit more, you can find good teachers who will come to your house. This way, you're not limited to the few stores and/or teachers in your part of the south shore. Riley Hagan seems to get some good feedback online. Not sure I'm allowed to link to him (and I have no idea what he's like), but google is your friend!

I've got the perfect guy for you. His name is Malcolm Stuckey and in less than one year of study with him, I have improved dramatically. He is in Marlboro (yeah, not the South Shore), but I travel an hour and a half from Providence in traffic for my lessons; he's that great. He's in his 50's and has been playing professionally since the early 1970's. He's been teaching since the late 70's, so he's got plenty of experience. He is an amazing player and also a jazz composer. I'll PM you his number. I'm certain you will be more than satisfied with him.
