Help with fingerstyle

Can anybody tell me what the fingerstyle Cliff Burton used? I also want to know how to play with that particular fingerstyle.

There isn't a name for the particular fingerstyle cliff used. It's just your standard bass player using his fingers. Just practice with using your fingers and play along with old Metallica tracks and you can get his style down.

I've seen him play with his index and pinky, but i don't know if he always played this way.

Well, he uses what several metal bass players around here call "finger slap". It's just plucking the strings with the fingers kind of parallel with the body of the bass, in order to get that "clank".

not likely. the muscles in your hand are largely attached to each other, so the pinky moves along with the other fingers creating this impression.
