Help with Guitar Pro?

I just bought Guitar Pro Software. The only way I can hear the playback is if I select the "Microsoft Wavetable Synth" under "Options / Midi Setup."

This sounds like crap because of the cheezy instruments.

I have a Terratec DMX 6 fire sound card. When I select this card for playback under "Options / Midi Setup" it won't play back.

Can anybody help?

You'd probably do better on a tech-oriented board. General Instruction isn't that general, I don't believe. As for my 2 cents, Guitar pro is a tricky piece of software, as it is somewhat buggy and apt to strange behavior. This sounds like a problem outside of the program though, a problem with the MIDI setup on the card you want to use.
