Ive was a 40 some year guitar player and as you guys know, who have read some of my questions haven't been playing bass long. I love playing bass more then I do guitar I found out. ANYWAY MY QUESTION IS. My wife has purchase us a new iMac with a 27in screen, Iam trying to find a program that will teach me to play Jazz Bazz from beginning to end maybe. I cant read music but can read tabs. I play bass at church and in a little band. In our band we play blues and country which some country puts me to sleep. Iam taking lesson from a teacher but we don't use a book and I go to work right after and sometimes by the time I get home Ive forgotten some of what he has shown me. Iam an very good guitar player but man I like that life on the bottom now Ive been there. Can you help me. Ive look on the net and just don't know.:hyper

My friend, play. Learn songs. Exercise your ear and your fingers. No book can teach you what the passion to play, and a God-given ability or love can. Watch other players like Steve Baily, Jaco Pastorious, Victor Wooten or Marcus Miller or even the lovely Tal Wilkenfeld for Jazz. Just do it. If you love your new instrument enough, you will learn, with a teacher, with a book, with a website, or with nothing but CDs and hard work.

I will look at them, I just want some good program that will get me playing Jazz. Iam playing blues, country and some rock in our band. Everyone tells me I have a flair for blues. Some times my Pastor who during worship plays Guitar, him and I will get a good groove going and it rocks everyone will stop and let us groove. He has a PHD in music and is awesome. and since I played guitar 40 plus years he will play a lead then I will play the same lead on bass will go back and forth. But he is a Jazz player and I can do some. I have learn Frank Sanatra The Way You Look Tonight and one other scale and some times I can incorporate them into other things. He has a tendency to want to play some of are worship using Jazz type are style chords and rythmn, I love it. We also use Blues scales which I have no problem because I was a blues Guitarist. I don't know much about Jazz and I want to learn I love it.

I suggest you learn to read music (SN). Also study music theory. IMO, learning jazz pretty much requires it. Spend some time on the DB side of TB and you'll see what I mean.

What helped me to remember was recording the lesson and going home and listening to the lesson over again. They just came out with the H1: http://www.samsontech.com/products/p...2053&brandID=4
along with some other accesories:

Sony and Tascam also make some pretty nice affordable audio recorders. Whether you and your instructor decide on a book, it always helps to go back and hear the lesson over again.
