Question HELP! i am stuck

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, i have a problem. I have been playing for 7 years and i kind of made a boo-boo when i first started by not getting taught how to play right. anyway, i have recently started making an effort to learn how to do things right; read music etc. Can anyone mention a book or instructional DVD that can teach me the in's and out's of scales so that i can make an effort to get out of this rut that i taught myself into... lol.

I constantly find myslef playing the same scales that i have known for years over and over so i need to expand into more complex theory etc. The only problem is i barley know how to read music so if i have the Tab's next to the notes it would help alot in both learing new scales and learning to read music. A book/DVD that has them side-byside would help alot!

Or, should i just get a teacher? I consider my playing style extremely advanced but my music theory is very very weak . I am sorry i wrote so much .

thanks for any advice!

Brian.

I would say get a teacher especially if you have been playing for a long time. They should be able to take the lines you know and show the theory that relates. I find relating to what you already know makes things usuable more quickly.

There are tons of materials available on the net for free if you just do a little Googling.

Yes...get a teacher! I teach a lot of "homemade" bass players who can play but don't know how or why they do what they do. Get a "Bass Teacher" not a guitar instructor. Good Luck!
