:help: Needing some help finding songs to play

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey people, ive been playing 5 months and im looking for new songs to play does anyone have any suggestions? To give u a scope of the kind of stage im at some of the harder stuff (seems to me anyway) include:
-Megadeth, Angry Again and A toute le monde
-Greenday, when i come around
-Arctic Monkeys, Fake tales and san francisco
-Metallica, For whom the bell tolls and Fade to black
-Chilli Peppers, Californication and Under the bridge
-Deep Purple, Smoke on the water
oh and ofcourse the theme tune to ghostbusters

I have used powertab to learn a lot of these songs which i managed to grab b4 it was shut down (used to play guitar lines on keyboard). Anyway I was wondering if anyone could point some songs my way which are slightly more challenging i find it hard to find songs which are just out of my scope... its either theyre easy or theyre WAY TOO HARD! Im not a defeatist but i do tend to put those in the try later pile (angry again was the exception learnt that after 2 weeks of playin). Anyway any help is appreciated ppls

What songs do you like? Learn those songs. Maybe checking out new bassists you havent heard before would be good advice. Really listen to the bass on EVERYTHING you hear and try to learn the things that make your heart pump harder!

I tell any every beginner/novice bass player who asks me what stuff to learn. I always tell them to learn as much of Pauls bass work on the later beatles albums. He epitimizes the foundation of a great bass line, and the fundementals you can get from his work crosses over to any genre of bass playing.

If you have the money I highly recommend a Tascam Bass Trainer. It'll enhance the bass range, speed up/slow down a song without losing pitch and you can set in/out points so it'll repeat a tough section over and over (and over and over, just ask my wife ) until you have it down.

With the bass trainer I've learned songs that I would've just put into the 'later' pile a few months ago. It also includes tuner, metronome and effects functions so it makes a great little practice headphone amp for those lunchtime and late night practice sessions.

They cost $150USD plus another $20 for the DC adapter but they're worth every penny. You'll want the adapter or rechargeable batteries because you only get about 90 minutes of use from 4 AAs.

start learning theory, it will probably be really boring, but i guarantee it will make you a better player. learn your basic scales and chords and arpeggios, and learn them well, theyre also great excersizes to build your technique.

I have my grade 5 theory, ive been playing keyboard since i was 5. so that erm... nearly 15 years. Im always practicing my scales but i dont usually have a problem thinkin of my basslines as i know which notes go with which chords... even the ones outside of the scales if u understand my meaning. Thanks for the tip tho, im hoping some other people of the same level as me will be reading this too and pick up on the tips too. Also standard notation is easy for me. Powertab uses both standard and tab notation at the same time, its v effective
