Help picking out Audition pieces?

Well the College Transfer gauntlet has been thrown.

Applying to both San Jose and San Fran state colleges for their Musical Composition program. San Jose's audition I'm not sweating at all, seeing as it's mainly bringing in my portfolio and the typical ear training/piano test. However, SF requires that I audition on my EB on top of everything else.

They want:
Quote:
-An etude or solo transcription (preferably memorized) comprising any excerpt from the jazz/world idiom that best demonstrates basic knowledge and articulation

-A jazz/world-music standard (preferably memorized), with stated melody followed by improvisation

-Electric and acoustic bass only: Demonstrate bass line to either All Blues, Equinox, So What, or Footprints

-Sight-reading: Chord symbols and standard notation to be provided. Bass lines to include walking a 12-bar blues, Rock, or R&B styles, with slapping and/or tapping
The latter two I'm rather confident in. However, I have no real clue as what to pick for the solo and standard. Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed!

Autumn Leaves would be a standard that allows you to alternate melody and chord changes, and is a nice solo vehicle.

I am currently an SFSU student doing the BECA Audio Production emphasis program and will probably be Minoring in Music--we may share a class or two soon!

Oh as far as what song to audition, I have no idea..sorry.

I love Autumn Leaves. Despite the simplicity of the tune, the song itself holds a lot of meaning to me. I'm highly leaning towards that or Summertime right now as my standard. Anybody have suggestions for a good etude or solo?

How about surprising them by transcribing a solo that was played on an instrument other than bass?

For the solo, how about Tricrotism by Oscar Pettiford?

I like KayCee's idea too. Check out St. Thomas by Sonny Rollins on the album Saxophone Colossus. It's a beautiful solo and most of it is pretty straightforward.
