Help with pinky finger

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay so, I've been playing bass for over a year now, and i have "double jointed" fingers. Whenever i try to use it, my finger either locks straight up, or when i can use it, my pinky is too weak to hold a note down. this caused problems since i started playing and i need some help on things i could do it either work without my pinky or strengthen it so i can use it.

can anyone help?

Practice practice practice your scales and force yourself to develop good one fret per finger playing position. With enough practice you'll build up the strength in your pinkie to be able to do this in your sleep.

Importantly, your setup will go a long way towards helping your left hand fretting comfort. Low action and a straight neck will mean much less strain on your fingers, and a much easier time for your pinkie finger.

+1 for practice.

If you need to step up, so to speak, play lighter gauge strings with lower action. Train yourself all the way up to flatwounds! When you play rounds at a 'normal' size, it'll be like butter! Or that could be taking it way too far including a good $75+ in string cost.
