Hope I Did the Right Thing with $80.00

With so much information available online and through books/dvds, I felt it might do me some good to get some training on how to.....well train.

Money being what it is, and my working nights ,and a three year old running amok in the house, I thought maybe , just maybe I found something that could perhaps give me a little nudge in the right direction as far as the best way to utilize all the info at my diposal. So I signed up for correspondance lessons with Cliff Engal. The price really seems too good to be true , 80 dollars for 5 biweekly lessons plus 2 more lessons thrown in.

I really hope this was a step in the right direction at least to give me a framework or template as it were as to how to best learn.

Theres just sooo much great info readilly available that to a new student it can get overwhelming, sorta like going to a store where you have soo many choices you whind up walking out without anything.

Untill lessons start though, Im taking the advice I got here to learn a song by ear, and Ill keep drilling exercises/scales/chords.

We'll see how it all go's.

Thus is why lessons are great. They help you learn all this information in a way that's actually able to be learned. At least IME. Otherwise, like you said, it's just a mess of disconnected dots.

Stick with Cliff. Devote yourself to these lessons and really dig in...you won't be sorry. The juice is worth the squeeze!

I took some lessons with Cliff and his online lessons work out real nice. Besides his materials being well written, you actually end up with more access to him than you would with a one-on-one instructor. You can email him questions about the lessons during the time between lessons. I think you will find it worth the money.

How do online lessons work? Does one need any special equipment like a web cam or an audio interface? I'm intrigued by this and may look into online lessons.

Just got my first lesson from Cliff, his lecture was over an hour. And his lesson material came out to around 50 pages of material.

I was like

Looks like many months of exercises and theory to get my head and hands around. However he assured me that the material presented was stuff you never really stop working on, like modes, arpeggios, sight reading etc. At my level however it all can seem quite daunting, like getting an instruction manual to build the space shuttle.


Ill definitely have to eat this elephant one small bite at a time.

Looks like you got more than your money's worth.

Don't forget you're getting TB replies from people who have played for years, some, decades. We've been there. It's all worth it once you get in a band and on stage!

Keep at it, you'll get it and have a blast for the rest of your life (no kidding)!
