Hot Sticky Fingers

Sign in to disble this ad
My fingers get clammy sticky when it is hot or humid out and it affects my playing. It isnt sweat as I dont sweat very easily at all they just get clammy I guess I would prefer that would sweat enough to get wet at that point.
I did find a post where some people would rub there fingers on there forehead or nose to get some natural oil and that does seem to help but not for long.
Is there anything that I can put on my Right hand fingers when this happens that wont hurt my strings?
Steve

I use cornstarch baby powder. Clean the strings after the gig. I suffer the same problems in humidity.

Keep a handtowel on stage and wipe your hands and your strings between each number. If you are using roundwounds I'd not recommend putting anything - talc, baby powder, or anything else - on your fingers as it will get trapped in the windings.

I carried baby powder to the last gig but it has cooled off so much that I didnt need anything,I do wash my hands with soap between sets and that seems to help and don't hold your ice cold drink in your plucking hand between sets either (I learned that the hard way).
Thanks for the input.

You can always try cleaning your hands with hand sanitizer or toweletts(wipies-like for babies).

For sure clean(wash) up before starting a gig. Load in/setup can really get your hands dirty/grimy/gritty.

+1 on keeping a towel handy to wipe your hands/neck with between songs.

+1 that's a great idea! Portable, cheap, no need to leave the stage, quick...

I had the some problem, too... fingers would get really sticky like after an hour and I had to wash my hands if I wanted to play more. After forcing myself to play with a softer touch, I've never had these problems again.
