What I would do is find some bass lines you really like, play one then fade into the other, then another, and you can have a solo like Jason Newsted's "Cunning Stunts". Just make sure they sound good together. Then maybe you could try spicing things up by adding your own little bits to it. Just an idea to get you rolling...

also, slow or fast? | Isn't that all subjective? It doesn't matter in what tone and speed you play it, just so long as it sounds cool.

I agree and disagree, slapping is not my thing, I show NO talent on it way too clumsy, I like tapping personally.
Oh for some cool solo's I'm just starting to get into it and getting the feel. Basically learn your fretboard and a few scales, after this you'll be able to come up with somethin, also practice other songs this will improve yah a lot. |

Scales are very significant, but it's important to show your fellow musicians and audience members that you know several different ways to manipulate the instrument. I definately support the slapping and tapping thing, especially if you can intertwine them (slap/tapping in the same lick).

Still it sounds good when done right.
Tapping I show more promise |
